IOSCO Publishes "Hedge Funds Oversight: Consultation Report"

The Technical Committee of the International Organization of Securities Commissions has issued a consultation paper putting forth its preliminary findings and suggested regulatory approaches in order to mitigate the risks associated with the trading and lack of transparency of hedge funds. The preliminary findings and recommendations of the Committee were presented to the G-20 Working Group on Enhancing Sound Regulation and Strengthening Transparency and to the Financial Stability Forum. As reported by Reuters, IOSCO members, which include the United States, European Union and Japan, have committed to applying the Committee's recommendations, even though such recommendations are not binding.
